Penalties for Violent Crimes in FL
Florida's violent crimes are considered serious offenses and are prosecuted as such. To illustrate, under Section 784.021, aggravated assault is a felony of the third degree, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Pursuant to Florida's sexual battery statutes, a person who commits sexual battery upon another person who is 18 or older without that person's consent commits a felony of the first degree, punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
