FWC/Maritime License Defense Attorney in Jacksonville
One citation on the water or in the woods can put a livelihood or a lifelong pastime on the line. Whether you work a commercial boat out of Mayport, hunt in Duval or Clay County, or run a boat on the St. Johns River, you answer to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and a single ticket can threaten the licenses and permits your income and recreation depend on.
At Law Offices of Jason K.S. Porter, P.A., our Jacksonville FWC and maritime license defense team represents people facing quota, gear, and reporting charges, wildlife and hunting permit violations, and boating citations.
A ticket that looks minor often is not. Florida Statute § 379.401 classifies FWC violations into four levels, ranging from noncriminal infractions to felonies, and penalties may include fines and the suspension of licenses and permits. A violation on your record can also raise the stakes for a later one. We can review the citation with you, explain what the state must prove, and work to protect your license and record.
A citation can feel routine, yet how you resolve it can affect every license you hold. Call (904) 701-0591 or contact us online to discuss your case with a Jacksonville FWC/maritime license defense attorney today.

FWC Violation Levels and What They Mean
Section 379.401 classifies FWC violations into four levels, each with different consequences. Level One violations, such as problems with the license and permit requirements in Section 379.354, are noncriminal infractions. The civil penalty is $50, or $250 if you were cited for the same violation within the previous 36 months. Levels Two and Three are misdemeanors, and Level Four is a third-degree felony. Repeat convictions at these criminal levels bring minimum mandatory fines and, after enough priors, suspension of your recreational licenses and permits.
How you respond to a citation can shape what happens next. Paying a Level One ticket counts as an admission, forfeits your right to a hearing, and can be used to set the fine for a later violation. At Level Two and above, any outcome other than acquittal or dismissal counts as a conviction under the statute, and convictions become priors. Before you decide what to do, we review the citation, the officer's basis for it, and your record.
