Jacksonville Wrongful Death Lawyer
When a family member dies because of someone else's negligence, the grief can be overwhelming. At the same time, hard questions begin to surface. Who is responsible? How will the family manage without that income? What should you say when the insurance company calls?
At Law Offices of Jason K.S. Porter, P.A., our Jacksonville wrongful death lawyers help families work through those questions and pursue accountability and compensation under Florida law.
Sometimes the party responsible is a large company, an insurer, or even a government agency. Our record shows we are prepared for even those cases. We represented the Estate of Fred Fedorka against Volusia County, and the case resolved with the largest monetary settlement the county has ever paid. We have also secured a $1,000,000 policy-limit settlement in a wrongful death action and a $450,000 recovery in a wrongful death case arising from a car crash.
You can review more of our case results here. Every case is different, and past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
Families who have lost someone deserve a legal team willing to stand up to large institutions and insurers. Call (904) 701-0591 or contact us online to speak with a Jacksonville wrongful death lawyer.

Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim in Florida
In Florida, family members do not each file their own wrongful death lawsuit. Instead, under Florida Statute § 768.20, the personal representative of the deceased person's estate brings a single claim on behalf of the estate and the surviving family. The personal representative is usually named in a will. If there is no will, the probate court must appoint one. Our firm helps relieve this burden by guiding your family through the probate process, assisting with the legal appointment of the personal representative, and helping file the claim correctly on behalf of everyone involved.
Florida law also strictly defines who counts as a survivor eligible to recover damages. Under § 768.18, survivors include the spouse, children, and parents. Blood relatives and adoptive siblings may also qualify if they depended on the deceased person for support or services, and Florida treats children under 25 as minor children for certain wrongful death damages. We can explain these complex rules in plain language and review your family's situation, gathering records to demonstrate financial dependency and verify survivor status, so that each eligible family member's claim is accounted for.
Strong communities build a stronger future, and we're proud to invest in the city we call home. We give back because this is where we live, work, and raise our families. When you choose our firm, you get trusted legal counsel and you support a team that's committed to making a difference locally.
