What does DUI stand for, and what are the penalties?
DUI stands for “driving under the influence.” DUI is a crime that
involves operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
or drugs. A driver may be charged with DUI for driving with a blood alcohol
level of 0.08% or greater, or for driving while his or her normal faculties
are impaired by alcohol or drugs. If convicted, a driver will face possible
jail time, a driver’s license suspension, community service, alcohol
or drug counseling, and other possible penalties.
